MSC Cruises signs long-term agreement with Southampton

MSC Cruises has announced that it has signed a long-term agreement with Southampton, commencing summer 2021. MSC Magnifica will be based at Southampton’s new Terminal 5.
“We are really proud to continue to support the UK cruise industry at this incredibly important time for both the industry and the UK economy. At MSC Cruises we truly believe in the potential of the UK cruise market and making this long-term commitment is proof of that,” said Gianni Onorato, CEO of MSC Cruises.
“Over the past five years, MSC Cruises has increased its presence in the UK and Ireland markets and following positive feedback from travel agents and our guests, we believe now is the right time for a larger commitment,” he added.
As part of the agreement, at least one MSC ship will call at Southampton each year, and more ships will call at Southampton as part of wider routes.
According to a press release, MSC Magnifica will sail 21 sailings from Southampton in summer 2021, including two 14-night Mediterranean cruises in June and August calling at Malaga, Lisbon and Monte Carlo, mini weekend cruises to Northern Europe and seven-night cruises along the Norwegian fjords.
Southampton’s new cruise terminal has received financial support from the UK government’s Getting Building Program and will include solar panels on the roof and shore-to-ship power, the cruise line said.
