2019 will be a record-breaking year in the history of the cruise industry: 24 ocean liners will be launched. This is almost 1.5 times more than the previous year in 2018. 10 billion dollars, more than 1.5 million tons of displacement and more than 40,000 new passengers. This dynamics once again shows how the cruise industry is growing and developing.
The largest new cruise ship of 2019 will be the Costa Smeralda, with a displacement of 183,000 tons and a passenger capacity of 5,224 people. Costa Smeralda will be launched at the Meyer shipyard in Turku (Finland) and will carry passengers on cruises around the Western Mediterranean.
MSC Grandiosa – a Meraviglia-plus class cruise ship – the second largest debutant liner, will enter service in November 2019.
Very remarkable fact: 12 of the 24 new ships in 2019 are expedition cruise ships. Interest in unusual cruises to remote corners of the planet is growing, and cruise lines are quickly responding to the growing demand.
Well, let’s take a closer look at the cruise world’s Class of 2019. We’ll just admire some, and we’ll “keep our eyes on” others and plan our future cruise. Moreover, cruises on all new ships of 2019 have been on sale for a long time! Those who like to be among the first guests on the ship should hurry up!
